The dictionary is my Bible

From a DaVinci Code interview on CNN.com:
"If we have offended any Christians, I would ask them to forgive us, which seems to be one of the main tenements in the New Testament," actor Paul Bettany, who plays Silas in the film, said with a smile during an interview with CNN's Brooke Anderson at Cannes Tuesday.
This explains the term "slum lord."

I learned the word "tenement" in the fifth grade - age eleven to be exact . I remember learning it, because our teacher was a stickler for vocabulary and spelling (although sometimes I would confuse "pill" and "peel" because of her Texas accent.)

This is a word that CHILDREN know.

People embarrass me.

The journalism student in me can't resist: is this the journalist's fault, or the quoted's fault, or somewhere in between? I'm leaning toward journalist - Shouldn't there be a "[sic]" in there, at the very least?

Could it be a transcription error?

If it came out of Paul Bettany's mouth it is O.K. with me.
