Republican homeowners fighting back Bush library

Saw this first on D Magazine's fun FrontBurner blog. Here's a link to a New York Sun story about the Republican homeowners in this neighborhood objecting to the heavy-footing of the university in "eminent domaining" their land for the Bush library. The official announcement has yet to be made about which school actually is awarded the white elephant, er, library. But it's long been assumed that it would be here. But not if these homeowners have their say.

Thank the Lord God Almighty.

Cause if they take the AntiChrist Library and put it at Baylor, Waco is really gonna go to hell quick.

Branch Davidians, Dancing On Campus, Basketball Players Murder, Catholic Priest blessing the opening of Hooters in Waco... that poor town doesn't need any more negative publicity.

Not only that, I would take my Baylor degree, still in the cylinder after 8 years and BOP IT OVER SOMEONE'S HEAD and then I am going to send them on a hunting trip with the MafiaLeader himself, Cheney.

Can you refuse to pay student loans for an education at a University stupid enough to house the library of the biggest idiot in the nation?

Its not Eminent Domain - its fee simple ownership.

When I went to SMU the campus was starting to buy up the condos and now has obtained majority ownership.

Virginia Postrel points this out.

I grew up on the fringe of SMU. From the fifties, all of the homeowners in our neighborhood knew of SMU's intention to acquire all properties between University Blvd and Mockingbird Lane and between Central Expressway and Hillcrest.

Yes, for fifty years, as property in the targeted area became available, SMU purchased it. Homes were used as rentals for visiting professors or graduate students with dependents.

So why is this suddenly big news?

I think it's because some of these Repub homeowners suddenly feel jacked around by their very own.

They need to feel jacked if they were dumb enough to vote for the nincom-poop in the first place

Dear homebru: I didn't say you voted for SMU but I guarantee you some of the people in your neighborhood voted for the biggest nincomp-poop, illiterate, "my daddy runs the mafia and he paid my way thru life", AntiChrist idiot other wise known as SHRUB (little Bush).

FFTVS: Aside from the shrub comment which made me crack a smile because I hadn't heard it in awhile (although it is very unoriginal), your commentary on the President is both childish and just name-calling. Care to tergiversate and add some constructive criticism of his choice of University, which is, indeed, the topic at hand?

Also, so this post isn't just a defense of Bush and an attack on your criticism of him, I'll add that I played devil's advocate and asked some of my more liberal professors what they thought of the UG lawsuit. Unanimously, every single one adamantly debased the SMU Law grad that is ignorant enough to call a non-governmental entity out on "imminent domain." Granted, the University which I call home did, GOD FORBID, plan something ahead of time in buying up property as it became available. Please name another reputable University who doesn't knowingly act in its best interest and tries to undermine its future, which is what SMU would have been doing if it hadn't gone after the library.

I've talked to members of the presentation committee about the library, and they're not malicious people.

This is enough for now. If I get a legible/coherent response or refutation I can go into how insane it would be NOT to want this blessing.

This is actually worse; I can't help but wonder why purported homeowners were not aware when paying their property taxes that their ownership was in question.

"I think it's because some of these Repub homeowners suddenly feel jacked around by their very own."

About bloody time, methinks. Wake up and smell the oil spill.
